dirt road

...Upon receiving McKean's message Rodney immediately headed for Philadelphia, even though his doctor said the ride could kill him. Rodney was in a great deal of pain throughout the ride since he was afflicted with a cancer of the face that had disfigured his features so badly that he was forced to wear a silk veil to prevent upsetting anyone who may have seen him.

Rodney had 80 miles to ride and only a half a day to complete a journey which normally took 30 hours. He arrived just as the voting session was about to begin. Read the full story here

Welcome to the Caesar Rodney School District

The Caesar Rodney School District, serving over 7,600 students from kindergarten through high school, is dedicated to the mission of preparing students for a successful, productive and purposeful life in a diverse, global community. We take pride in the educational opportunities provided to the children of our community beginning with the synergy created in our "state of the art" McIlvaine Early Childhood Center, continuing in our elementary schools and middle schools until they leave as prepared citizens through the doors of Caesar Rodney High School. We also take great pride in our responsibility to provide educational services to the children of military heroes at Dover Air Force Base.

In partnership with our community, the Caesar Rodney School District strives to provide an exemplary schooling experience for our diverse population by focusing on the ARTS, ACADEMICS, ATHLETICS, in a safe and caring ATMOSPHERE.

The instructional programming available in the Caesar Rodney School District for each of the 12 schools has been recognized in the past as exemplary at a state level. Not only have students performed well on state testing, with all seven elementary schools identified as "Superior Schools", but the District has also consistently maintained a high rating in the State Accountability System. Yet, we understand that the challenges our students and the District face under the current "No Child Left Behind" legislation and Delaware's new state accountability system.

We are especially proud of the staff and students of Nellie Stokes Elementary School for the recognition they have recently earned as a National Blue Ribbon School.

We are excited over the opportunities presented by the "Race To The Top" grant and are committed to making sure that each child is provided with an education that meets their intellectual, social and instructional needs. Still, this commitment will only be achieved through the continued collaboration of our faculty, staff, administrators and our community.

As superintendent, I am proud of our tradition of educational excellence and look forward to an outstanding future. ~ Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald, Superintendent
